Boys LAX Ready to Go

Anthony Faber and Nick Frigerio

Dalers Lacrosse is back! The Dalers got off to a hot start, winning their first eight games and knocking off their cross town rival, the Syosset Braves. Last year, when the Dalers matched up against the Braves, they did not get the results they wanted as they were defeated 7-4. They seeked revenge on them in the playoffs, and revenge is what they got as they came back and beat the Braves 11-10. This year, the Dalers are rolling as they are currently 10-2 and only have 2 games remaining.

This year the Dalers are led by senior captains Tim Hegarty, Brian Michael, Brody Agres, and Kevin McCormick. Unfortunately, Agres tore his ACL during the football season, forcing him to miss the whole season. Sophomore Sean Gillman would get the call to be the starting goalie in his second year on varsity. Gillman would shine in the spotlight as he has done a great job filling in for the injured Agres, which is a tough task. However, he would not be the only sophomore to shine this year as others such as Jack Cavaioli, Anthony Matalone, and Jake Oemcke have all had fantastic years. Cavaioli has 16 goals and 4 assists this year, with his most notable goal being a buzzer beater against Bethpage in a controversial 11-10 win. The Dalers started off the year with a statement win over West Islip, letting the whole lacrosse world know that the Dalers are for real this year. Matt Olbeter was the spotlight player that game, scoring three goals in his first game back from two ACL injuries. The started 3-0, but they ran into a Carey team that would not go away. Eventually, the game was once again taken over by Olbeter, who finished with 4 goals and 1 assist.

The Dalers would follow those wins up with another six wins. Their first loss of the year would come against Massapequa in a 7-4 game and they are seeking their revenge as the playoffs approach. The Dalers are excited and working hard to come out strong in their first playoff game.
