Spread the Spirit

Every year Farmingdale High School hypes up the homecoming game with a week filled with fun activities and theme days. According to Ms. Grant, the SGA co- advisor, “Spirit week creates a sense of community and camaraderie. It gets the student body excited for the festivities of homecoming.”  This year, homecoming will be taking place on Friday, October 5th. Spirit week brings out the creativity and competitiveness of the Farmingdale students, with each student wanting to have the best theme day outfits.

Students take pride in fully dressing up for the specific theme days. The theme days this year are Maui Monday, Team Tuesday, Around the World Wednesday, Throwback Thursday, and Let’s go Dalers Friday.

How are these days chosen? Ms. Grant jokingly explained, “I lock the entire Student Government in a room and don’t let them out until they agree on days.” After they agree on a set number of ideas, they take it to school administrators to be approved.

Most do not realize all the hard work that goes into making spirit week happen. A large part of spirit week is preparing for pep rally. Ms. Grant explained, “The most nerve-racking part of spirit week is definitely pep rally.  There is chaos in the air and many moving parts. However, pep rally is also one of my favorite parts of spirit week, partially because of the chaos in the air. It all magically comes together and is the perfect preparation for the football game.” I bet you thought that homecoming was a lot easier to put together.

All in all, spirit week is a time that everybody looks forward to. We all get to be free-spirited and creative. I hope you enjoy your spirit week this year, and LET’S GO DALERS!
