Lady Dalers Volleyball

Farmingdale volleyball often times does not get the credit it deserves, as it lives in the shadow of more popular sports like soccer and football. Exciting, fast-paced, and entertaining, volleyball is actually one of the most interesting and unique sports to watch. With that being said, the Lady Dalers Volleyball team just finished up their season with a loss to Plainview in the playoffs. Even though they did not win, the Dalers still played an excellent game and fought hard throughout and never gave up, even when the game was going against them. Overall, the season was a success as they finished with an excellent record of 9-5 in a very difficult conference. The team was led by setter Alyssa Moritz, who had 162 assists, Alyson Maddalone with 92 kills and 16 blocks, Jax Gregorovic with 72 kills, and middle blocker Alexandra Mott who had 18 kills and 13 blocks. These are just a few examples of players who had a big impact on the court, as others like libero Steph Birkl and Lindsey Shimborske had excellent passing all season long, which is crucial in order for the setter to give a good set to the outside hitters. Passing in volleyball is one of the things in the sport that can sometimes go unnoticed, like blocking in football, but without it a team will never be great. With most of the starters being seniors this season, the Dalers will have some big shoes to fill next season as starting spots will have to be taken. The Dalers should be proud of their season and look forward to building on their success next year.
