The Paper Plate Awards
As the cross country season is coming to an end, it is a bittersweet moment for me as well as the other seniors. On Sunday, October 28th, our team raced at counties. Being down two of our top varsity runners, there was a lot of pressure. In order to qualify to come and race again on the returning Saturday we needed to come in the top twelve of the teams. With the weight on the nine girls’ shoulders, we placed eleventh and squeezed our way right in to secure our returning place. After hearing the good news, the team had their annual pizza party followed by the iconic paper plate awards. These awards are made by the team captains of the boys and girls teams and each person is presented with a “Most likely to..” award ranging from funny things all the way to a full-on roast session, revealing all of the secrets that were held between people during the season. Although the other seniors and I were sad to think that a lot of “lasts” happened all in one moment, we knew our memories would last forever as we always admire our plates hanging proudly on our walls.
