Lady Dalers Basketball Receives League Sportsmanship Award
April 16, 2019
The Lady Dalers varsity basketball team, coached by Peter Cerrone and Dave Stein, saw great success with one of their best seasons this year. Starting off the season beating an extremely talented Plainview-Old Bethpage JFK team 39-34, the Lady Dalers knew the potential they had within the team. Being in the Top AA-1 Conference, they knew they were up against the challenging teams of Syosset, Freeport, Uniondale, and Massapequa.
One of the major goals for the team, as it has always been throughout Farmingdale history, was to beat Massapequa. After years of the girl’s Massapequa basketball team beating Farmingdale, this season the tables turned. The Lady Dalers beat the Chiefs both times 47-34 and 51-38, which built their confidence and willpower for the rest of the season. The team ended up making it to the Semi-Finals at Farmingdale State College, which shocked everyone. At the end of their season, the team went 13-8 Overall, and 8-5 in Conference.
On March 18th, the Girl’s Basketball team received the Ann Adamchik League Sportsmanship Award, which recognizes team sportsmanship on and off the court. “It’s a credit to our players that not only do they play hard with a strong desire to succeed, they are always cognizant of playing and acting appropriately before officials, other players, and coaches,” says Coach Peter Cerrone, who accepted the award that night. Also, Assistant Coach Dave Stein was named the Assistant Coach of the Year at Basketball Awards Night. “It’s an honor to be recognized for this award,” said Coach Stein. “Any individual award is a product of being surrounded by great players and coaches. Every day, Coach Cerrone allows me the opportunity to work with these great, incredibly hard working, student athletes.”
