Patriots are Not the Greatest Dynasty in all of Sports
November 5, 2019
While their fans may say the New England Patriots are the greatest sports dynasty ever because they have Tom Brady, their renowned quarterback, the truth is, the Patriots are the most hated team in the NFL because every single call goes their way and it drives me up the wall. It’s comes to a point where everybody has just had enough and I really don’t care anymore.
They make such a big deal about it because “well they have Tom Brady as their quarterback” and “Brady has led them to six championships,” even though in reality it should be one. In my opinion, all of their championships will always be tainted, with the exception of Super Bowl LIII, since I feel they wanted it more than the Rams. The “Tuck Rule” game started it all. The “Tuck Rule” is when the quarterback is holding the ball to pass it forward, any intentional forward movement of his arm starts a forward pass, even if the player loses possession of the ball as he is attempting to tuck it back toward his body. The 2001 AFC Divisional Playoff game between the New England Patriots and the Oakland Raiders will always be famous because it was a fumble and everybody knew it, even Brady knew it, and the game was over . However, the “Tuck Rule” allowed the Pats to go on to play the St Louis Rams in Super Bowl XXXVI.
In Super Bowl XXXVIII, the Panthers kicked a field goal to tie it up at 29. On the next kick, the kicker for the Panthers, John Kasay, kicked it out of bounds, which was a penalty, and the Patriots went on to win that Super Bowl. In the next Super Bowl, XXXIX, against the Eagles, the Patriots cheated the game because they basically knew every single play from the Eagles and every audible. The shame of it is that they only won by three points, 24-21. This later became known as “Spygate.”
The Patriots choked the 2007 season when the were 18-0 entering the playoffs and lost to the Giants in the Super Bowl XLII. Then in Super Bowl XLVI, they lost to the Giants again.
Tom Brady cheated his way to Super Bowl XLIX by deflating footballs in the AFC Championship. Brady was also caught in a web of lies, which included saying that he smashed his phone, and even throwing the Ball Boys under the bus. In the Super Bowl, the Seahawks were driving, they had the ball on the one yard line with Marshawn Lynch (a.ka. “Beastmode”) in the backfield with a chance to win the game. The Seahawks decided to pass it in traffic and it was intercepted: game over.
At Super Bowl LI, the Pats were getting blown out by the Falcons, but the Falcons decided to pump the brakes and go conservative, so the Pats came back and won the game. Then the next year, the Pats lost Super Bowl LII to the Eagles fair and square.
Super Bowl LIII was a different story, as the Pats played the Los Angeles Rams and they dominated them defensively; however, the offense didn’t do that much. They were the better team. The Rams were there because of a missed pass interference call and basically had no business being there.
I know everybody anoints the Patriots as the greatest dynasty ever because they have six Super Bowls. But I don’t buy it– they should only have one Super Bowl win and that is Super Bowl LIII against the Rams. Every other Super Bowl is clearly tainted.
