Beetlejuice… Beetlejuice… Beetlejuice!
November 5, 2019
The musical Beetlejuice came to Broadway on April 25th, 2019. Prior to this, it premiered in Washington DC at the National Theatre. For a while now, Beetlejuice has been very popular and I had the opportunity to see the musical myself. After seeing it, I think I fully understand why Beetlejuice has become such a huge hit.
Before seeing Beetlejuice, I had never seen a Broadway show, and what a first show it was. One major reason for the success of Beetlejuice is clearly the man himself who plays Beetlejuice, Alex Brightman. Before Beetlejuice, Alex Brightman was Dewey Finn in School Of Rock. Whenever I hear about Beetlejuice, the first thing that comes out of people’s mouth is how amazing Alex is with his portrayal of Beetlejuice. Alex Brightman’s performance in this play is phenomenal; I can’t imagine anyone else playing Beetlejuice than Alex.
The soundtrack is another major factor in the success of Beetlejuice. The soundtrack is incredible, from “Say My Name” (one of my personal favorites) to “What I Know Now.” “Say My Name” has even gained some popularity on the app TikTok with people lip syncing to the lyrics. The whole soundtrack is so catchy it is abound to get stuck in your head.
On a personal note, I had the opportunity to meet some of the cast, and they were so nice. Leslie Kritzer, who plays Delia, was one of the nicest people I met. I even got the opportunity to take a picture with her. She even took time out of her day to go outside and sign everyone’s playbills and take pictures.
In my opinion, everyone should go see Beetlejuice because the experience is amazing. So go get your tickets because, unfortunately, saying “Beetlejuice! Beetlejuice! Beetlejuice!” won’t bring the play to you.
