Jets: Week 1 Recap

Once Week 1 was upon us, there were a lot of headlines surrounding the matchup. The New York Jets vs the Carolina Panthers was rookie Zach Wilson’s first NFL start. And of course his initiation into the NFL would be against Sam Darnold, who was playing a “revenge game” against the Jets after they traded him away this past offseason. There were also lots of interesting stats going into this game, one being that the Jets had more Week 1 rookies starting than any team in the NFL since 2012, according to jetswire.com. The game started out quite poorly for the Jets, a couple of three and outs, Zach Wilson was sacked a few times and things were not looking so well for the New York team. Going into halftime, the Panthers led 16-0. During the second half, the Jets did make somewhat of a comeback, scoring 14 points in quarters 3 & 4; however, they still ended up being defeated 19-14.

Some takeaways that I saw going into this game was that Zach Wilson did not look bad in his first career start. Despite losing the game, he still put up very good numbers completing 20/37 of his throwing attempts, with 258 yards, 2 touchdown throws, and only 1 interception. Another positive that I noticed was our recently signed WR Corey Davis played phenomenally, posting 5 Rec for 97 Yards and 2 TDs. I’m optimistic that the Jets can turn things around in the coming years. This is still a rebuilding team and they will have some growing pains along the way. The Jets do have the youngest roster in the NFL, according to phillyvoice.com, but the potential of this team is through the roof. However, time will tell if the Jets will ever take flight.
