I walked into class to find my brother eagerly awaiting the Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse trailer to drop, watching the stream on my computer. Members of period 7 journalism gathered around as the countdown struck zero.

In the first third of the trailer, there was already-seen footage from teasers of the movie as well as clips from Into the Spider-verse. You can definitely tell that this movie is paying homage and staying true to the original film.

After Gwen Stacy’s (Spider-Gwen’s) call to adventure, the second third of the trailer found Miles Morales in what I’d like to call the “Citadel of Spiders” surrounded by the spiders of the Spider-Verse. The roster included Spider-Man PS4, Bombastic Bag-Man, Spider-Cop, Future Foundation Spider-Man, and many, many more. With one of the most famous multiverse franchises in comic books to date, the sheer amount of Spider-Mans will make this movie one of, if not the most, interesting movie of the superhero multiverse tropes.

The final third of the trailer found conflict, however. Miles Morales was being heavily bombarded and chased throughout the “citadel” by the Spider-Mans of the Spider-Verse with Spider-Man 2099 played by Oscar Isaac leading the charge. There even seemed to be some type of civil war happening. This begs the question, why is Spidey ‘99 after Morales and what makes Miles so special out of the endless Spider-Mans of the Spider-Verse?

This trailer does a great job of showing off the pure excitement fans will get from watching this movie while not giving away too much of the plot. I am very excited to see this movie and if you haven’t already, watch the trailer frame by frame to see if you can spot your favorite Spider-Man in the mix.
